New mass graves of Yezidis with 1,237 bodies discovered
The Director General of the Department of Forensic Medicine of Iraq, Dr. Zayed Ali Abbas, said that medical and health teams have recovered more than 1,237 bodies, according to preliminary data, these are the bodies of the local Yezidi population living in Shangal. Excavations were carried out in 17 districts in the vicinity of Yezidi villages, where mass executions of Yezidis by ISIS terrorists took place.
Ali Abbas said that the bodies over which the examination was carried out were identified by DNA and handed over to their families, according to preliminary data, these are the bodies of 1088 male bodies, but the forensic medicine department continues to compare the DNA of the remaining bodies. Employees working in this area are surprised that mass graves of the Yezidi population are still being discovered on such a huge scale.
