The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili said that the European Commission would be "an incorrect political message" to single out any country when evaluating an application for EU membership.
"The approach should be unified," Papuashvili said.
Georgia and Moldova applied for EU membership in early March, following Ukraine. The European Commission announced that it will give its assessment on June 17. In recent days, Western media have been writing a lot about the fact that decisions on the three countries may be different, and the status for Georgia is questionable.
"Putting three countries on the scales when the decision is made in an accelerated mode would be an unfair approach on the part of the EU," Papuashvili said.
Earlier, representatives of the Georgian government have repeatedly stated that Georgia is much more ready to receive the status of an EU candidate than Moldova and Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, responded to this.
"Ukraine is paying a terrible price for choosing to become a European democracy... Values are more important than advantages. What is important to you? The number of the queue of applications?". He wrote on Facebook, referring to Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
The Speaker of the Parliament in response called on all three countries applying for EU status to "declare support for each other."
"Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia — each paid their price and contributed. These 30 years are years of struggle for all three countries. The associated trio should enter the candidate status together," Papuashvili said.
