The Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government cannot agree in any way to reconstruct and expand the road through the Nineveh Valley, where the Yezidi population mainly lives.
After years of bureaucracy and delays, the road connecting Al-Kosh district and Sheikhan district will be transformed into a two-way road, the project was postponed since the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government did not agree on who is responsible for the costs, the project budget and construction.

Traffic accidents on this very road have claimed the lives of 90 people over the past two years.

The Kurdistan Regional Government stated that the project for the construction of a two-way road lies with the Government of Iraq, which, in turn, has assigned responsibility to the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Residents of the Al-Kosh and Faida subdistricts and parts of Tel Kaif and Sheikhan districts use the road, which also connects about 100 villages in the area, in addition to the fact that thousands of trucks pass through this road daily to and from Baghdad.
While two regional governments are arguing about who will reconstruct the road, local Yezidis suffer and die in traffic jams and accidents on this road segment.
