Since March 1, 2023, the rules of internal transit in Georgia are changing – the relevant bill has been submitted to parliament.
Internal transit is a customs procedure in which foreign goods are transported between temporary storage warehouses and customs warehouses on the territory of the country without paying customs duties and taxes.
According to the current legislation, internal transit is issued for a total of 90 days, the daily fee for which is one GEL. According to the amendments, a single fee will be established for the registration of internal transit for a period of 90 days and its amount will be 50 lari (about $ 16).
The bill cancels the sanction for overdue internal transit in the amount of five lari per overdue day, as well as a fee of 30 lari (about $ 10) for the restoration of a lost number.
The amendments also cancel long-term internal transit, which is issued for 365 days and costs 450 lari (about $ 150). According to the initiators of the bill, the use of long-term domestic transit services in practice occurs infrequently and there is no need for this service anymore.
The fee for issuing one pair of transit numbers is also changed, it increases by 20 lari and will amount to 50 lari. Instead of issuing a paper transit number, it will be possible to issue a metal license plate, the cost of which will be 50 lari.
