"People in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the Western Balkans are now looking to Europe with hope. I want people to believe like us, and we must understand that we are not just an economic bloc, we are not just an opportunity for free movement, we must be leaders," said the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, speaking at the European University in Florence.

Metsola spoke about the importance of Europe and the problems the continent is currently facing.

"18 years ago, on May 1, I was standing in Valletta, the whole country was counting the minutes until Malta joined the EU together with nine countries. I still remember the feeling of countless possibilities, hope and faith in the future. Against the background of the war in Europe, it is this spirit, enthusiasm, and clear direction that I want to see as the direction of Europe.

People in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the Western Balkans now look at Europe with the same sense of belonging and hope. I want people to believe as we do, and for this we need to understand that we are not just an economic bloc, we are not just an opportunity for free movement. For my generation, Europe is a cliche of a common dream, common values, a common future, a life together. Europe is the future for us. She was always the future. We cannot deny that polarization has intensified in our societies in recent years. There are still many people who feel lost. We have to be leaders, we have to be able to give an answer," Roberta Metsola said.
