In a country like Japan, with a growing demographic crisis and a shortage of labor and a steady decline in the population is expected, the word "immigration" arouses suspicion, fear, and uncertainty.

In 2016, according to statistics, Tokyo accepted only 28 out of 10,901 asylum seekers.

Nevertheless, in Warabi, a working-class neighborhood in the northern suburbs of the Japanese capital, a community of about 1,300 Yazidi refugees has been established. A sense of pride and a historical search for identity prompted these people to rename this area "Varabistan". Living in complete uncertainty, these people are balancing between legality and temporary work and under control and the risk of expulsion. As in modern Dante's limbo, the main characters are not aware of the carriers of original sin, which they did not commit. They face the eternal burden of not being accepted by a deeply nationalistic society that is reluctant to integrate and yet desperately needs this workforce in a key sector of the Japanese economy, such as the construction industry.
