The Consul General of the Netherlands in Erbil Hans Akerbum visited the sacred Yezidi temple Lalesh in Sheikhan and stressed that the Netherlands will continue to support the Yezidis affected by the terrorist group ISIS

"The Netherlands remains committed to supporting the Yazidis," Akerboom said. "The Yazidis have suffered greatly from ISIS."
Last year, Akerbum visited the World of Hazim Tahsin Beg, the spiritual leader of the Yazidis in Iraq and around the world, and Ali Elias Haji Nasir, the new spiritual leader, also known as Bawe Sheikh.
Last week, legal experts and Yezidi activists discussed in the Dutch Parliament the possibility of prosecuting IS militants involved in crimes against Yezidis.
Most members of the Dutch Parliament recently passed a resolution calling on the government to include crimes committed against the Yazidi community in the evidence collected on ISIS.
The resolution was adopted after the Netherlands repatriated more IS women from Syria earlier this month. The Yezidis fear that these women may not be held accountable for crimes against the Yezidi people.
"We in the Netherlands continue to monitor the situation with the Yezidi community. "We are in close contact with them.
Today I met with Baba Sheikh and the World. The discussions were very constructive, we discussed what happened during the IS period, and the numerous victims, and the consequences that are still being felt today. The situation of displaced Yezidis, victims of violent acts, genocide and other crimes occupies an important place on the Dutch agenda," Akerbum said.
The Consul General noted that the Netherlands finances several projects and programs for the Yezidis who survived the genocide. Including programs related to training and providing young Yezidis with opportunities in the labor market.
During the visit, the sides also discussed the agricultural sector and investment opportunities in agriculture in the Yezidi districts.
During their conversations with Akerbum, the Yezidi leaders stressed the importance of implementing the Shangal Agreement and rebuilding the destroyed city so that displaced Yezidis could safely return to their homes.
