The plan includes attracting investments in the development of renewable energy sources, laying power lines along the bottom of the Black Sea, and so on.
The Georgian government has prepared about forty investment projects in various fields that will attract new investments worth billions of dollars, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava said in the program "Tavisupali Hedva" (Free Vision) on Channel One.
Against the background of the coronavirus pandemic, the volume of foreign direct investment in Georgia in 2020 decreased by 57.2% compared to 2019 and amounted to 572 million dollars. This is a big loss for the country. According to the data of the three quarters of 2021, the volume of investments increased slightly - only by 3.2% compared to January-September 2020 and amounted to $ 728.4 million.
The Ministry of Economy is working on investment projects, which Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has already been acquainted with.
"This, for example, is a very important development in terms of renewable energy sources, not only hydroelectric power plants. We are talking about wind energy, solar energy and new technology that we are the first to develop in the region. This is green hydrogen, so to speak, the energy of the future," Turnava said.
The Minister noted the importance of developing strategic energy projects.
The Minister assured that 2022 will be very interesting in this regard and many large-scale projects will be announced soon.
She stressed that in 2022, the Ministry of Economy plans to change the passive approach, in her opinion, and not wait for investors to become interested in Georgia themselves. The search for investors in different countries will begin.
