Dr. Karim Al-Nuri, Deputy Minister for Administrative Affairs of the Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons, held a conversation with Claire Duster, Director of the Livelihood Program of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), at the Ministry's headquarters in central Baghdad. The parties discussed programs to encourage the return of displaced Yezidi refugees and displaced persons.
According to a statement by the press service of the Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons, both sides touched upon the livelihood program, which includes a number of steps, including cash for work for returnees in addition to individual assistance in providing livelihood.
The Deputy Minister said: "The International Organization for Migration (IOM) plays an important and effective role in assisting the Ministry's care teams, and we hope to develop this interaction with partner organizations in order to close the case of displacement and close all camps. The Ministry, in turn, provides the organization with all opportunities to support displaced Yezidi refugees and displaced persons.
The stages of this program contribute to the success of the Ministry's plan for the return of displaced persons on a voluntary basis, as the program takes into account the priorities and needs of displaced persons that allow them to return."
For her part, Ms. Claire Duster highly appreciated the effective role of the Ministry and its cooperation with partner organizations to facilitate their work to support displaced persons, noting that the program began in 2018 in liberated areas with the financial support of the German Development Bank, which indicates that the main goal of the program is to create jobs for returnees or expand projects for displaced persons, including the restoration of liberated areas from ISIS terrorists.
