The Russian company Metrovagonmash became the winner of the tender announced by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Tbilisi Metro for the supply of 44 wagons. This is stated in the response provided by the Tbilisi City Hall to the relevant request of the TASS agency.
"The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) plans to purchase 44 new railcars for municipal services in Tbilisi through standard procurement. Based on the documentation and the analysis of the applicants' prices, Metrovagonmash JSC was identified as the winner for the purchase of these wagons. The purchase price of the new 44 wagons will be €49.19 million," the document says.
In addition, in 2022, the Tbilisi City Hall, with the help of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, plans to repair more than 10 metro stations, including Varketili, where the ceiling collapsed in January 2018 and about 15 people were injured.
As previously reported, a subscription system for public transport will be introduced in Tbilisi from February 1, 2022. At the same time, the cost of a one-time trip is doubled - from 50 tetri to 1 GEL.
