The Parliament of Georgia has approved a law on lotteries, gambling and profitable games, tightening regulations in this area. In the third, final reading, the bill was supported by 82 deputies, only one voted against.
The changes provide for an increase in the age threshold for participation in gambling. Persons under 25 years of age are not allowed to participate in the game (in the case of a foreign citizen / stateless person – under 18 years of age). A list of dependent and banned persons will also be created. According to the bill, both a person – based on his own application, and his family members – will be able to add a person's name to this list in court.
Participation in gambling will also be prohibited to persons working in budgetary organizations; employees of regulatory bodies; employees of the National Bank; family members who are registered in the unified database of socially vulnerable citizens.
The bill introduces a ban on online payments by Georgian payment cards for the purpose of participating in foreign gambling and profitable games. According to the amendments, all payment service providers, including commercial banks and microfinance organizations, are prohibited from cooperating with foreign gambling companies to secure payments.
The new rules will come into force on March 1, 2022.
