The European Commission has approved new rules according to which the validity period of digital covid certificates will be 9 months (270 days).
The new rules will come into force on February 1, 2022 in 27 EU countries. When introducing different rules for the use of certificates at the national level, member States should bring their own rules into line with the rules of the European Commission. The rules adopted by the European Commission apply only to travel between EU member states.
The decision considers the recommendations of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, according to which booster doses are recommended no later than six months after the end of the first vaccination cycle.
In addition, the certificate will be valid for another 3 months after the expiration of six months to ensure the adjustment of national vaccination campaigns and citizens' access to booster doses.
According to the decision of the European Commission, the European certificate is designed to guarantee the free movement of citizens across the EU during the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, it is noted that these rules were adopted on the basis of scientific data and an assessment of objective criteria.
