The Red Cross and Red Crescent Society will build a regional logistics hub in Georgia, the press service of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reports.
For the construction of a logistics center of regional significance, the Government of Georgia will transfer to the organization a land plot of more than 3 hectares in the city of Rustavi (near Tbilisi).
The Red Cross will build a system of large warehouses in Rustavi.
"It will be a place where the whole region will be able to conduct joint trainings, as well as from where the whole region will be provided with the necessary equipment and materials. In addition, it will contribute to our economy, as transportation will increase and there will be more jobs on the spot," Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava said.
The Minister of Economy met with representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, including Secretary General Jagan Chapagain and President of the Georgian Red Cross Natia Loladze.
Turnava stressed that the Georgian Red Cross Society has been working for more than a hundred years and has always supported the country, including during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Georgian Red Cross Society is actively involved in mass immunization. In September 2021, Georgia received a gift of 100,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine from the organization.
