"Georgia is one of NATO's closest partners, for which there are many reasons," Javier Kolomina, Special Representative of the NATO Secretary General for the South Caucasus, and Central Asia, said during an online discussion organized by the Center for Strategy and Development of Georgia.
According to him, Georgia is one of the three postgraduate countries that has been making a significant contribution to NATO operations for many years. At the same time, he noted that the political dialogue with Georgia in recent months has been very fruitful and intense.
"Georgia is one of NATO's closest partners, for which there are many reasons. Georgia is one of the three postgraduate countries that has made a significant contribution to NATO operations over the years, and we also have many common challenges.
The political dialogue with Georgia in recent months has been very fruitful and intense. Over the past year alone, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze have visited NATO. We work within the framework of the Georgia-NATO Commission, which is important, since only a few NATO partners have a specific platform for cooperation with NATO.
At the same time, as you know, the NATO Military Committee was in Georgia on a visit, I was also in Georgia in October. I had wonderful meetings with members of the Georgian Government, including the President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense and in Parliament.
Practical cooperation is extensive and active. There is no instrument aimed at partnership, which Georgia does not have. We have a lot of tools that Georgia uses very well. This concerns both education and training, etc. Georgia is one of the most active partners of NATO and we have very good relations," Javier Kolomina said.
