According to him, they want Mount Shangal to become a new focal point for them, because the area has a very important political dimension, is located near the Syrian-Iraqi border and has natural strongholds. He described the huge economic benefits of smuggling oil, agricultural products, animals, etc., as well as security and economic benefits.
It is worth noting that a representative of the Iraqi Joint Operational Command recently stated that the situation in Shangal is under control, which was met with a critical reaction from Kurdish officials and the local Yezidi population, who replied that the situation on the ground is completely different from what the military representative claims.
The fate of the local Yezidi population remains unknown.
