Yezidi refugees and displaced persons in the city of Dahuk are preparing for winter. Conditions in the camps of the Kurdistan region are no less difficult for them than in previous years after the chances of their return to their homes decreased amid the absence of decisions by the Iraqi government, which may facilitate the return of some Yazidi families.
Yazidi refugees who live with their families in the Mam Rashan displaced Yazidi camp /Sheikhan district say that day after day they lose hope of returning to their homes due to the conflicts around the city of Sinjar. And those who have returned to their homes since last year still suffer from the lack of the most basic services, such as water and electricity, not to mention schools, healthcare and other vital needs.
Those Yezidis who could not escape to Europe are in hell. The residents of Shangala need the help of the international community. The refugees who were supposed to receive financial compensation from the Iraqi State receive nothing. Some areas, especially the southern ones, suffer from systematic destruction and terrorist attacks, as well as the lack of protection from the remnants of the terrorist organization ISIS, which poses a threat to people's lives.
The outgoing Iraqi Government bears full responsibility for its failure to provide the simplest requirements for return. The population hopes that the next Government, which will be formed after the approval of the election results by the Federal Court, and the winning representatives of Sinjar will fulfill their election promises and place the cases of displaced persons among their priorities.
Minister for Migration and Displacement Evan Fayk Jabro said: "The Ministry has shown that great efforts are being made to continue the implementation of the plan for the return of displaced Yezidis, close cooperation is being carried out in this area with relevant ministries and other sectoral bodies. There is also constructive cooperation with the United Nations regarding the implementation of the plan in accordance with its deadlines," noting that the Amiriyat al-Fallujah camps in Anbar and Al-Jadaa in Nineveh will be closed in the coming months.
