German police detained 31 Iraqi immigrants, among whom were Yazidi refugees in an area bordering Poland.
In a statement, the German police said that 19 Iraqi men, 2 women and 10 children were found in a pickup truck near the German-Polish border in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
It is reported that the truck crossed the border in Blankenez, and was stopped by federal police on Saturday morning. The truck driver, a 34-year-old man from Poland, was arrested.
The health status of immigrants is poor. The children were wearing wet, worn shoes, their feet were wrapped in aluminum foil, which led to injuries.
The police took the immigrants to the Pasfalk police station.
Germany and Poland accuse Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of systematically moving refugees from the crisis areas of Iraq and Syria, most of whom are Yezidis to the external borders of the European Union. Over the past few months, hundreds of Yezidis have tried to enter European countries through Belarus.
Responding to the "tough" sanctions against the former Soviet republic, Lukashenko said in May that he would not prevent migrants from entering the European Union.
