The Iraqi authorities are asking Poland to allow the Yezidi citizens of Iraq who are stuck on the border with Belarus and who want to voluntarily return to their homeland to enter its territory, the Foreign Ministry of the Arab country said.
The Charge d'affaires of Iraq in Warsaw, Hussein al-Safi, said at a meeting with Polish Deputy Interior Minister Bartosz Grodecki that "Iraqi refugees have fallen for the tricks of the Kurdish organizers of illegal migration networks."
"As-Safi proposed to allow entry to Poland to those who wish to voluntarily return (to Iraq - ed.) from those who have asked for asylum, stuck on the border of Poland and Belarus, as well as to allow consular staff of the Iraqi Embassy in Warsaw to meet with these citizens and carry out consular actions for their return," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In turn, the Polish representative said that Warsaw does not have accurate data on the number of Iraqis stuck on the border.
One of the Yezidi refugees who did not want to give his name said: The Yezidis have nowhere to return, our towns, villages, houses where we lived have been burned and looted, and it is not possible to live in camps in Syria and Iraq. All humanitarian aid that is sent to the Yezidi camps does not reach us. And from the so-called monetary compensation we get some meager pennies, which it is impossible to live on even for a week. We have been oppressed and are being oppressed on a religious basis, both Arabs and Kurds, we will not have any life there. We will either starve to death or die at the hands of ISIS and their followers, which still exists.
We ask for help and shelter from the whole European world - Help the Yezidi refugees."
