Candidate for Mayor of Tbilisi and Chairman of the United National Movement Nika Melia, candidate for the post of chairman of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo and founder of the Droa party Elene Khoshtaria, and founder of the Girchi - More Freedom party Zurab Japaridze held a final pre-election press conference today, to which only TV journalists were invited.
At an hour-and-a-half press conference, opposition leaders answered journalists' questions and focused on protecting voters' votes on election day, emphasizing the importance of forming a coalition government in 2022 and touched upon the problems that the country has been facing for many years.
Three parties, together with European Georgia, joined forces on the scale of the capital and put forward single majority candidates in Sakrebulo. They view the local elections on October 2 as a kind of "referendum" that should decide the fate of the new parliamentary elections in 2022. The agreement between the opposition and the ruling party, reached on April 19 with the mediation of the EU, provides for holding new parliamentary elections next year if the Georgian Dream does not gain 43% of the votes in local elections.
