Test flights of four modernized Su-25s belonging to the Defense Forces have been completed in Georgia today.
The aircraft are equipped with a modern electronic navigation system.
"By the end of the year, we will have six restored Su-25s. You can also see the active recovery process of the Mi-24. We will intensively produce these helicopters, " Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.
The Prime Minister said that four American helicopters have already been sent from Georgia to the United States for modernization.
"Very soon, in a few months, they will arrive and the entire aviation fleet will be completely repaired and restored," Garibashvili said.
According to the prime minister, the process of restoring UH-1 continues. The overhaul of four AN-2 aircraft units has been fully completed. The aircraft were transferred to the base of the mixed aviation squadron and are actively used to solve a variety of tasks.
The demonstration flight of the modernized Su-25 was attended by Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze and the commander of the Defense Forces, Major General Georgy Matiashvili, together with the Prime Minister. They visited a new assembly shop for the repair of aircraft equipment on the territory of the Tbilisi Aviation Plant "Tbilaviamsheni".
Now, the Mi-24 helicopter is being repaired there, a test flight of which is planned in the near future.
Modernization of the Georgian Air Force is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Defense. In this regard, the agency is actively carrying out the restoration and modernization of the Su-25, Mi-24 and American UH-1 attack aircraft. The restoration and modernization of the aviation fleet is part of the ten-year development plan of the Georgian Defense Forces.
The process of updating the fleet is carried out in cooperation with the enterprises "Tbilaviamsheni" and "Delta".
