Among the files of secret wiretapping carried out by the State Security Service of Georgia that have got into the Internet, there are documents that relate to employees of diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia. This is reported by the opposition TV company "Mtavari".
There is nothing special about the content of the conversations that got into the network, but it is important that all employees of the diplomatic services were listened to, the TV company notes.
According to the analyzed files, conversations of employees of the US Embassy, the head of the media communications department of the US Embassy, the head of the public relations department of the embassy, the assistant to the Ambassador Kelly Degnan were secretly tapped and recorded.
In addition, the assistants of the German Ambassador, as well as the Israeli Ambassador, his assistants and his personal secretary were monitored.
On September 13, it became known that thousands of files with audio recordings of clergymen secretly listening to the Internet, including nuns, priests, metropolitans and even members of the Synod of the Patriarchate – about 100 representatives of the clergy in total.
Several thousand audio files contain compromising data describing the private lives of specific people. Special attention is paid to the sexual orientation and the past of high-ranking clergy.
The authenticity of the files has not yet been confirmed, but some surveillance objects have already confirmed their authenticity.
According to the Mtavari TV company, the secret recordings were "leaked" to the press by a resident of Tbilisi, a former employee of the State Security Service Akaki Nemsadze, who committed suicide two months ago, on July 8. Before his death, he decided to expose the criminal system, Mtavari claims, and sent files to the e-mail of opposition TV channels.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia launched an investigation in connection with this fact on September 14. A criminal case was initiated under the article "violation of the secrecy of private communication". The crime is punishable by a fine of up to five years. On the same day, the State Security Service of Georgia issued a statement expressing its readiness to cooperate with the prosecutor's Office at all stages of the investigation.
