Interior Ministry: The robber at the "Bank of Georgia" in Kvareli is accused of terrorism

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has distributed official information about the detention of an armed man who attacked a branch of the Bank of Georgia in the small town of Kvareli in the Kakheti region yesterday.
The operation to free the hostages taken by him and detain the raider himself did without bloodshed and even without shooting.
"A 49-year-old man is accused of taking hostages for terrorist purposes and illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of ammunition," the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes.
According to eyewitnesses, the detainee is a resident of the neighboring Telava municipality.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that an armed man broke into a branch of the Bank of Georgia on Chavchavadze Street in Kvareli yesterday afternoon and took 13 people hostage in order to get a large amount of money.
The relevant police units were immediately mobilized on the spot and operational and investigative measures were launched.
As a result of negotiations between the representative of the department and the invader, the attacker gradually released all the hostages, after which he was detained.
The investigation is conducted under three articles – "Illegal acquisition, storage, carrying, manufacture, transportation, transfer or sale of firearms, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices", "Terrorist act", "Hostage-taking for terrorist purposes".
