The Relations Committee of the Yezidi Union in Syria held a meeting with the Deputy Special Envoy for Syria with Mrs. Haula Matar, dedicated to political events and recent recommendations of Mr. Pedersen to the UN Security Council.
The meeting was attended by the Yezidi Union in Syria, members of the Relations Committee Gerkin Nabo and Fawzi Jolie, as well as a member of the Human Rights Committee, Mr. Fermiz Garibo, as well as Yazidi activists Salva Elias and Ibrahim Doshi.
Ms. Haula Matar, Assistant to the International Envoy, stressed the importance of implementing Security Council resolution 2554, which guarantees, from the point of view of the international community, the rights of all components in Syria, including the Yezidi minority, which must exercise all its rights and confidentiality within the framework of the future of Syria.
The UN Envoy is also aware of the problems faced by the Yezidis in Syria, and that they are doing everything in their power to put an end to this and ensure that it does not happen again in the future. Through the Syrian Constitution, under the auspices of the international community, resolution 2554 clearly states the guarantees of the rights of minorities in Syria.
Ms. Haula Matar also expressed her satisfaction with this dialogue and promised to transmit its contents in addition to the report prepared by the Yezidi Human Rights Committee to the UN Envoy, and stressed the importance of continuing such sessions on an ongoing basis in the future.
