A delegation of US Congressmen has arrived in Georgia

Today, meetings within the framework of the visit of a delegation of US congressmen begin in Tbilisi, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reports.
The delegation consists of Congressmen: Alex Xavier Moon (West Virginia), Brian George Steele (Wisconsin), Kelly Michael Armstrong (North Dakota), Carol Devin Miller (West Virginia) and Ronald Gene Estes (Kansas).
The Congressmen will stay in Georgia for three days-until September 9
The main topics of the meetings will be security issues and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry notes that congressmen representing various congressional committees will hold meetings with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava.
A meeting in the Georgian parliament and a trip to the separation line near the Tskhinvali region are also planned.
The congressmen who arrived in Georgia are co-sponsors of the "Act in Support of Georgia"initiated by the US House of Representatives.
The visit was organized by the US-Georgia Friendship Association. The delegation also includes the President of the Association and Honorary Consul of Georgia in San Diego, Melor Tsipuria, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"The visit of US Congressmen to Georgia is an important event, especially against the background of what is happening in the region, and not only. Naturally, we will use this visit to discuss security issues with our colleagues, and we will take a detailed look at the challenges facing our country. The speech will also touch on strategic cooperation with the United States of America, which is of great importance for Georgia, especially against the background of current events, " said Maka Bochorishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration.
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the United States of America were established in 1992. In 2009, the two countries signed the Charter of Strategic Partnership, within the framework of which the US-Georgian Commission on Strategic Partnership was established.
