"The government's decision to refuse EU assistance and the conditions set by the European Union raises questions about the future of Georgia and the rule of law necessary to protect every citizen," said Jim Risch, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
In an interview with Voice of America, the senator said that both parties should work to create a better political environment.
"Both parties should respect the spirit of the April 19 agreement and work to create a more peaceful and cooperative political atmosphere in Georgia, including by holding clean and fair local government elections on October 2," the senator said.
At the same time, Jim Risch calls the decision of the "United National Movement" to sign the agreement too late.
"It is good that the United National Movement has finally seen the benefits of the agreement of April 19, but this gesture is too small and too late. By refusing to sign the document for several months, the United National Movement has shaken the agreement, which contributed to the decision of the Georgian Dream to withdraw from the agreement," Senator Risch said.
