The Yezidi activist, who won the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, and the Ambassador of the World Aurora Forum Lamia Haji Bashar, expressed her concern about the burning of agricultural crops and the burning of a number of mass graves in Sinjar region, Iraq.

These mass graves are containing the bodies of victims of the Yezidi genocide and evidence of genocide. Bashar considered this as a target for the presence of Yezidi in Iraq and an attempt to prevent the people from returning to their homes.

“We see the fire burning everything in our region. The flames of these fires are burning the bones of our martyrs and victims in the mass graves. These mass graves that were abandoned without any care for 5 years.

The fire images bring to mind the tragedy of the Yezidi again. This indicates the targeting of the Yezidi presence In Iraq and tries to spread terror and fear in the hearts of the Sinjar people that will prevent them from returning home safely” Bashar continued in her post.

Bashar added “On this painful occasion, I condemn this heinous crime, which is added to the crimes of terrorism and ISIS crimes, which not only slaughtered people and robbed innocent people of their dignity, but also cut their food and livelihood source”

Bashar also asked the Iraqi government and the international bodies to carry out their legal and moral duties in order to protect civilians and compensate the affected people.

She also stressed the need to protect and preserve the mass graves until the completion of the disclosure.

Bashar also called on the international community to urgently carry out their duties to open and document the remaining mass graves before it can be targeted by other type of terrorists.
