Yazidi activists in Iraq

After the application (for audio conversations) "Clubhouse", in recent months, has gained great popularity, which has allowed most influential journalists, politicians and celebrities in many countries to enter open conversations, as well as millions of people around the world use this application, our society has started to keep up with the times, with the world of social networks. Not an exception was the Yazidi youth, who began to resort to the service of this platform, to discuss various topics among themselves almost daily. For example, young activists have created a "club" (virtual room) called "Window to Society", where important topics related to the Yazidi community are discussed in open dialogue sessions. Everyone can take part in discussions on various topics and express their opinion. The last and most important topic of discussion was the topic of "electronic blackmail". Due to the increasing use of social networks, the phenomenon of this term has increased dramatically and has become commonplace. Many social media users are prone to bullying, which has many negative consequences.

Thanks to a virtual meeting and a general discussion held in the Clubhouse app between a group of Yazidi youth, the activists were able to define the term «electronic blackmail» and discussed some points related to this phenomenon: clearly and simply.

1. The blackmailer's rejection of the world on a religious or ethnic basis.

2. A claim against the blackmailer before its publication if he threatens to achieve the goals and desires.

3. Legal action against the blackmailer in case the content is published so that it becomes a deterrent for others and a lesson for those who think about blackmail.

4. Payment in exchange for refusal to file a claim or silence.

5. Fathers and mothers protect their sons and daughters if they are blackmailed, and try to keep quiet about everything, instead of filing a lawsuit against the blackmailer.

6. Accordingly, do not send anyone personal information or photos, regardless of the type of relationship, because electronic accounts are constantly vulnerable to piracy.

7. Do not store personal materials on your mobile phone or other electronic devices.

It is noteworthy that the Law on Combating Cybercrime, the article on threats and crimes of extortion, is punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to five years and a fine of at least from 5 000 000 – 10 000 000 Iraqi dinars.

If the blackmailer publishes content that threatens the victim, he is liable to imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years and a fine of at least 10,000,000 Iraqi dinars.

If the blackmailer publishes content with the intention of attacking religious, family, or social principles and values, he is liable to a penalty of more than 15,000,000 Iraqi dinars.
