On one of the main Christian holidays, festive prayers will be held today in all Orthodox churches in Georgia.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II will hold a divine liturgy in the Church of the Annunciation at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Tbilisi.

According to the church calendar, on April 7, Orthodox Christians celebrate one of the main Christian holidays – the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos. Services will be held in all Orthodox churches in Georgia today.

On the church holiday of the Annunciation, they remember how the Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Blessed Virgin and told her that she was to become the mother of the Son of God.

Mary, who was brought up at the temple until the age of 14, was betrothed to Joseph. In the house of her betrothed husband, who was supposed to protect the Virgin's innocence, she led a quiet life of prayer. Therefore, she was genuinely surprised how she could give birth without knowing her husband.

The Archangel, according to legend, explained to her: "The Holy Spirit will come upon You, and the power of the Highest will overshadow You." To which Mary humbly replied, " Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word." This event gave rise to the Gospel story.

The readiness and consent of the Purest Theotokos to accept everything that is prepared for Her is an example for every Christian of what the relationship between God and man should be. Their meaning lies in cooperation, that is, not only in accepting the Will of God, but also in showing one's own good will on the way to the Lord.
