"We are deeply convinced that the expansion of NATO in the Black Sea region is a necessary condition for European and world security, that Georgia needs NATO as much as we need NATO," Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili wrote on Facebook.

The Prime Minister responded to the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

"The desire to join NATO is the main priority of Georgia's foreign and security policy, based on a broad public and political consensus, which is reflected in the country's Constitution.

In cooperation with the Alliance, Georgia has made tremendous progress in developing democracy and improving its military infrastructure.

Our Government has further deepened and strengthened this cooperation, based on the principle of "More NATO in Georgia and more Georgia in NATO".

Today, Georgia is one of the closest and most reliable partners of NATO. Our armed forces contribute with great professionalism and dedication to peacekeeping operations, whether it is the NATO Firm Support mission in Afghanistan or the EU missions in Central Africa and Mali.

We are ready to fully share the responsibility for collective defense.

At a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, I have already stated that the time has come for Georgia to move forward in NATO.

We firmly believe that the expansion of the Alliance towards the Black Sea is a necessary condition for European and global security; Georgia needs NATO as much as we need NATO, " Garibashvili wrote on Facebook.
