The quota for Georgian citizens who want to get a seasonal job in Germany has been increased tenfold. This is reported by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany.

"By the harvest of 2021, 5 thousand seasonal workers from Georgia can come to Germany," the ministry said in a statement.

As noted, the quota was adjusted "due to the great interest of the Georgian side." Initially, citizens of Georgia were offered 500 jobs in Germany. More than 97.6 thousand people applied for these positions. All of them were registered on a special portal of labor migration.

The State Agency for Employment Promotion explained that the increase in the quota was due to the expansion of the geographical area of the employment program. Currently, there are vacancies for Georgian citizens in the regions of Stuttgart, Dusseldorf and Brandenburg.

The first seasonal workers from Georgia will go to Germany in late April or early May.

"Training courses have already begun, where each applicant receives information about employment conditions and social guarantees. Preparations for departure are carried out with the participation and support of the International Organization for Migration," the employment Promotion agency said.

On January 17, 2020, the agreement "On the employment of the Georgian labor force in seasonal work in the Federal Republic of Germany"was signed. On its basis, since February 15, the Ministry of Health has announced the registration of Georgian citizens who want to go to Germany for seasonal agricultural work on a special portal. Registration will last until the end of the year.

Seasonal work involves participation in the harvest for one to three months. Work is offered five to six days a week for 8-10 hours a day. The minimum wage will be 9.5 euros per hour, from which taxes and expenses for food and accommodation will be deducted.

Those who go to work must meet certain requirements. This must be only Georgian citizens aged 18 to 60 years who were not in the Schengen area three months before the planned departure. Also, applicants must be physically healthy and have the experience and motivation to participate in the harvest. Registrants should not have any violations that may prevent them from entering the country.
