On Sunday, a protest of the city council of self-government was held in Shangal.

The protesters opposed the fact that the security of the city was controlled by the Iraqi forces.

"The Yazidi forces must be present at the checkpoints until the internal problems are resolved. Our people do not want war. We are peaceful people," said Khalaf Taal, a member of the local government council.

"That's enough, we don't bow to anyone anymore. We must work together to ensure security in Shangal so that we can be protected every day in the absence of the YBS (Yazidi armed group) Shangal Resistance Units. We liberated Shangal from Daesh with our own blood. We don't want our blood spilled on this earth again. We will not allow any enemy to enter this city, " said Said Ilyas, a member of the local government council.

According to the Baghdad-Erbil Agreement on Shangal, there should be no armed group in the area other than the Iraqi army. Baghdad has set an April 1 deadline for the armed groups to leave.

Over the past five months, the YBS and the council have met with Iraqi forces eight times to reach an agreement, but to no avail.

"If you reject our offer, it is our duty to respond with force, to defend our ancestral lands and our long-suffering Yazidi people. Encircling your army of Shangal will not lead to anything good. If you continue in this spirit, you will be responsible for any problem that arises in Shangal, " said Sheikh Samir, a member of the local government council.

Recall that in Shangal there is a certain part of the Yazidi minority that supports the presence of the PKK.

The PKK is a Kurdish armed group that is formed from Kurdish fighters and Yazidi rebels. Some of the snipers in the squad are Yazidi girls.
