The Government of Georgia has extended the state program of subsidizing wheat flour until June 30, thanks to which the existing prices for bread will be preserved. This was reported in the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.

According to the decision of the authorities, flour mills will be able to receive subsidies for another three months. At the same time, their size has been increased to 20 GEL per bag.

"Under the program, the amount of subsidy for a 50-kilogram bag of first-grade flour is no more than 20 lari. As a result of the subsidy, the beneficiary undertakes to sell flour for no more than GEL 53, " the ministry said in a statement.

Beneficiaries of the program will be required to sell flour to bakeries at a price of no more than GEL 53 per bag.

Participants of the program will be able to become flour mills, which will win the tender announced by the Agency for Rural Development. Subsidies will be provided monthly until June 30, 2021, for flour sold in the amount of no more than 10 thousand tons.

To avoid a rise in the price of bread in Georgia, last year the authorities decided to subsidize the purchase of wheat flour of the first grade. Initially, the subsidy for a 50-kilogram bag of flour was 10 lari, and later its size was increased to 15 lari. The program was designed for four months, its term expired on March 31.
