"I do not think that the decision that the Georgians themselves should make should be made for them by the friends of Georgia. We will support the Georgians in making the right decision for them, " US Deputy Secretary of State George Kent said during a virtual discussion at the Atlantic Council, where the situation in Georgia was discussed.

"I think that the US and the EU have a lot of space to continue working together. In my opinion, the expectations that someone from Washington will arrive in Tbilisi on an urgent visit in the next two weeks are unrealistic. We can work with the help of our ambassador and the EU Ambassador, who promote dialogue. In my opinion, the elements that the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, spoke about with representatives of the Georgian political spectrum were also presented in the negotiations that have been going on for several months with the facilitation of the ambassadors. So, in my opinion, the elements of this dialogue have been known for a long time," George Kent said.

According to him, there is a lack of political will on both sides.

"If they are seriously thinking about the future of Georgia, they must make a decision. Both sides of the divided political field agree on Georgia's future path. This is reflected in all opinion polls. According to the latest NDI survey, 75 percent of the Georgian population supports Georgia's accession to NATO and the EU and sees this as the future of Georgia. In my opinion, the dialogue between the United States and Europe will be strong and will address various issues, including Georgia, as well as the Caucasus; the situation that has developed after the Karabakh conflict, Iran, Belarus, and Ukraine. I am sure that we will have a partnership and we will work with the entire political spectrum. I do not think that the decision that the Georgians themselves should make should be made for them by the friends of Georgia. We will support the Georgians in making the right decision for them, but it must be entirely their decision, " told US Deputy Secretary of State George Kent.
