The decline of the Georgian economy in January was 11.5 percent

According to preliminary data of the National Statistics Service of Georgia (Gruzstat), the country's GDP in January of this year decreased by 11.5% (on an annual basis).

In January, exports of Georgian goods decreased by 16.2%, imports to Georgia-by 16.6%. The decline was observed in almost all sectors of the economy, except for the sectors of information and communication, financial and insurance activities.

According to Gruzstat, the country's GDP last year fell by 6.1% against the background of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2019, economic growth was 5%.

According to the IMF forecast, Georgia's economy will grow by 5.0% in 2021, and Georgia's economic growth will average 5.5% in 2021-2025.
