The subsidy program began in December and is designed for 4 months, in total, the state plans to spend 10 million lari on it.

State subsidies for flour help reduce the price of bread by 15-20 tetri, said Levan Silagava, executive director of the Association of Wheat and flour producers, on the air of Channel One.

The Georgian government yesterday decided to increase the subsidy for a bag of first-grade flour weighing 50 kilograms from 10 to 15 lari, in order to prevent an increase in bread prices.

"The new subsidy program covers the period from February 1 to April 1 and allows you to keep the price of bread. The companies will supply the factories with a bag of flour for 53 GEL, so that the bread does not grow. If it were not for the state subsidy, the price of bread would have increased by 15-20 tetri, " Silagava said.

According to him, the increase in subsidies became necessary due to the increase in wheat prices, as a result of which the cost of a bag of flour increased from 63 to 68 GEL.

The subsidy program began in December and is designed for 4 months. A fixed price for a 50-kilogram bag of first-grade flour is set at 53 lari (approximately $ 16.2) for flour mills. That is, the government grants subsidies to those flour mills that sell flour of the first category to bakeries for 53 lari per bag.

In total, the state plans to spend 10 million lari (more than $ 3.1 million) to subsidize wheat flour.
