By the end of January, the Georgian Parliament will discuss the issue of terminating the powers of deputies who have addressed the legislative body with relevant statements. This was announced today, January 22, by the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze.

"According to the rules, the committee on procedural issues has specific deadlines that have already expired. This obliges us to put this issue to a vote at the next meeting, " he said. Talakvadze added that the position of some politicians could not be re-checked, because the committee could not contact them. "In their case, the indicator for us will be whether these people will appear in the meeting room on the day of voting," the speaker of the parliament said.

According to the official results of the elections held in the fall of 2020, 8 opposition parties and blocs won 60 of the 150 seats in the Parliament of the tenth convocation. They consider the elections rigged and refuse to enter the parliament. More than 50 deputies have officially submitted an application to renounce their mandates, the Novosti-Georgia news agency reports.

In early January, on the basis of personal statements, three of the four deputies elected from the "Alliance of Patriots" were deprived of their parliamentary powers: Irma Inashvili, Giorgi Lomia and Gocha Tevdoradze. The fourth in the list – Avtandil Enukidze, did not give up the mandate. Later, he entered the parliament together with three other members of the party's electoral list – Gela Mikadze, Fridon Injia and David Zilpimiani. Now they all represent the new union, the European Socialists party.

Two deputies elected from the "Citizens" party, Aleko Elisashvili and Levan Ioseliani, as well as three deputies from the "Girchi" party, Yago Khvichia, Vakhtang Megrelishvili and Salome Mujiri, did not officially send applications to the Parliament for renouncing their parliamentary powers.
