Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has asked the European Parliament (EP) to review tuition fees for Georgian students in the EU. This was reported in the press service of the Zurabishvili administration.

Zurabishvili spoke about the tariffs that apply to Georgian citizens in European universities during a meeting with President of the European Parliament David Sassoli in Brussels. The President of Georgia believes that the fee for Georgian students should be the same as for students from EU member states. Zurabishvili asked Sassoli to make a corresponding recommendation to the authorities dealing with this issue.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the availability of the coronavirus vaccine. Zurabishvili noted that the EU bears not only moral and symbolic, but also political responsibility in this process. The President of the EP supported this position, emphasizing the importance of solidarity during the pandemic.

At the end of the meeting, Zurabishvili invited Sassoli to Georgia. He, in turn, expressed a desire to come together with a delegation of MEPs and get to know the country better.

Within the framework of the two-day working visit to Brussels, Zurabishvili will hold high-level meetings and meet with the leaders of the EU and NATO. A meeting is planned with the EU High Representative for Security Policy and Foreign Affairs Joseph Borrell, the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrowski, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament David McCallister, as well as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The Georgian President's visit to Brussels will end on January 23.
