The decision to open the economy and remove restrictions in various areas should be unambiguous, principled and irreversible, only in this way will the country be able to overcome the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This is stated in the statement of the President of the Business Association of Georgia (BAG) Soso Pkhakadze.

"February 1, 2021 is the date after which it is necessary to adjust the agenda in connection with economic needs and acute challenges… We, the whole country, every citizen, every business, have been living and working practically on the COVID-19 agenda for the past year, taking into account the needs, advice and recommendations of our healthcare system and doctors, and we understand that compliance with the recommendations should continue after February 1, but without any closures, point or sector restrictions, " Pkhakadze said.

The President of the association also emphasizes that measures to prevent the spread of the virus must remain unchanged and strictly controlled. This includes managing the flow of customers, maintaining distance and the rules for wearing masks, periodic testing or other recommendations that are agreed upon by epidemiologists, the government's economic team and business.

The Interdepartmental Coordination Council under the Government of Georgia will decide by the end of the week on the issue of lifting or easing the restrictions imposed since November 28. It is known that from February 1, the authorities plan to open clothing markets and stores.

Since November 28, Georgia has banned movement on the streets on foot and by car from 9 pm to 5 am, public transport in large cities has been stopped, restaurants and cafes only work takeaway through the delivery service.

The coronavirus pandemic caused a recession in Georgia's economy. A huge number of people were left without work, hundreds of small and medium-sized business owners went bankrupt. Representatives of the business sector have recently been actively demanding that the restrictions be lifted.
