The operation of public transport in Georgia will be restored when the detection rate of coronavirus in the country falls below 5%. This was stated at a briefing by Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia.

"When we see that the number of cases decreases, and the positive indicator falls below 5%, we will already be able to talk about the safe opening of highly active public activities," Gabunia said, answering a journalist's question.

To date, the detection rate of coronavirus in Georgia exceeds 7%. So, after conducting 15,205 tests for coronavirus, today 1,177 new cases of infection were detected in the country.

Due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, public transport in Georgia was completely stopped on November 28. Earlier today, seven non-governmental organizations issued a statement calling on the country's authorities to lift this restriction from February 1. They pointed out that this restriction inherently discriminates against the most vulnerable segments of the population and contributes to the aggravation of the existing economic crisis.

As you know, the Georgian authorities have revised the plan to open economic activity and decided to postpone the relaxation of quarantine restrictions for two weeks. It is now planned to start gradually lifting the restrictions from February 1.
