"The Yazidis are so good at shooting lead bullets that they hit a flea in the eye and a camel in the knee. But if you saw their weapons, you wouldn't buy them for any money. Their weapons are inexpensive and old. But they shoot well and hit the target well, " wrote the Ottoman traveller Evliya Chelebi about the Yezidis.

Even with their meagre weaponry, the Yazidis were excellent warriors. Their enemies called them mountain wolves. The Yezidi wars knew their terrain perfectly well and were always able to repel attacks by an outnumbered enemy even with small detachments. They lived in the mountains and were engaged in cattle breeding, led a nomadic lifestyle, revered and revered their religion and their traditions to this day.
