On 20 November, three Iraqi police brigades were deployed to Sinjar in Northern Iraq as part of a recent agreement between Erbil and Baghdad to normalize the situation in the Yazidi area.

In an interview with Basnews, the mayor of Sinjar, Mahma Khalil, said that some of the police forces are stationed in the North and South of mount Sinjar, while others are stationed in the village of Vardia and the city of Qahtania.

According to the agreement, the police force will consist of 2,500 local Yazidi residents.

According to a recent agreement between the Kurdistan Regional government (KRG) and the Federal government of Iraq, all armed groups, including the PKK, must leave the area.

The agreement should help stabilize the situation, resume the provision of public services, and eventually return displaced Yazidis.
