The second round of parliamentary elections in Georgia – the main figures of the voting day

The second round of elections is being held in 17 single-member districts in Georgia today.polling stations opened at 8:00 am.

Voting takes place at 1,914 polling stations. In addition, 80 special sections have been created for people in inpatient medical institutions and in isolation (quarantine, self-isolation). The total number of voters is 2 140 210 people.

The CEC of Georgia States that they took care to prevent the spread of infection during the voting and took precautionary measures. Voters appear at polling stations in masks. Members of election commissions, observers and media representatives undergo thermal screening before entering the polling station. At the same time, they must wear gloves, masks and shields.

9,5 thousand representatives of electoral subjects, 47,3 thousand observers from 132 local observation organizations and 920 observers from 48 international organizations were registered to observe the elections on November 21. About 5,600 journalists from 118 media outlets were accredited to cover the election process.

The second round will differ from the first in that the process will not be monitored by representatives of opposition parties. In protest, the opposition removed its observers and recalled members of the commissions.

The Central election Commission spent 8.6 million lari (more than $ 2.6 million) on the second round of the parliamentary elections.

Participants

The ruling Georgian dream is the only electoral entity that participates in the second round. All opposition parties withdrew their candidates. They do not recognize the legitimacy of the first round of parliamentary elections held on October 31, claiming that the results were rigged. Opponents of the authorities called on their supporters to "completely ignore" the vote.

Despite the opposition's decision, the ballots will still include all the candidates who made it to the second round – two in each district who showed the best results in the first round, but failed to score more than 50%.

According to the CEC, the Georgian dream candidates should be opposed by representatives of five parties and blocs: "United national movement-Strength in unity "(in 12 majority districts)," European Georgia "(in two districts)," Girchi"," citizens"," labor party " (one candidate in three districts).

The election will be considered held at any turnout. The candidate who receives a simple majority of votes will win. The first results of the vote will be announced by the CEC by midnight.

According to the Electoral code of Georgia, the Central election Commission must publish the final results no later than the 19th day after the election. The first session of the newly elected Parliament is convened by the President of Georgia no later than the 10th day after the results are announced. When the rights and powers of the new Parliament are recognized, the speaker, Vice-speakers, and heads of committees and factions are selected.
