Against the background of the growing incidence of coronavirus in Georgia, the government decided to stop funding some planned operations until March 1, 2021. Corresponding changes were made to the decree "on measures for the transition to universal health care".

Grant lists have been discontinued for all emergency operations, except for cancer and cardiac surgery. Grants issued before November 10, 2020 are valid.

This is the second time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that the Georgian government has made such a decision. At the end of March 2020, it was announced that all planned operations in the country will be postponed for four months. However, they were resumed in may.

Georgia's healthcare system is overloaded. At the end of October, covid clinics began to report a shortage of places. Often, those patients who are being treated for other diseases cannot receive services in a timely manner.

According to the government's decision, starting from 20.11.2020, medical institutions in Georgia that are not involved in the COVID-19 management process are required to independently care for their patients and employees if they are confirmed to have coronavirus.
