In Georgia, the Protocol for managing patients with mild coronavirus is changing. This was announced by the Director of the Tbilisi infectious diseases hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze after the meeting of the clinical group on COVID-19 management.

Now all patients in covid hotels and some of those treated at home will undergo three mandatory tests: a D-dimer test, a General blood test, and a saturation measurement. According to Tsertsvadze, so far "this is not done in any country."

He explained that analysis for D-dimers can determine the risk of thromboembolism. "As you know, almost a quarter of deaths are due to thromboembolic complications, and almost 100% are among those who stay at home," he added.

As for the General blood test, according to Tsertsvadze, it allows you to determine the stage of the disease and possible bacterial complications. Doctors determine whether the patient needs to be prescribed antibiotics and other medications.

The last analysis — measurement of saturation-is necessary to detect oxygen deficiency.

"The patient may not feel oxygen deficiency and breathe freely. This is typical for Covid. However, he may not have enough oxygen in his blood. Such patients represent the main risk group in terms of exacerbations and deaths, " Tsertsvadze said.

Another important innovation is the strengthening of the role of covid hotels. Now only asymptomatic patients with "very low risk" will be treated at home. All other light patients will be transferred to quarantine hotels.

Hospitals in the country are overcrowded. Managing the virus is becoming more difficult every day. The Ministry of health recognizes that there are problems both with the bed Fund and in terms of human resources. The government does not rule out that new point restrictions will be introduced to curb the spread.
