Mtirala national Park was the winner of the World Tourism Awards

Mtirala national Park won the "Leading national Park of Georgia 2020" category at the 27th World Tourism Awards. The award is one of the most prestigious in the world tourism industry.

"This international recognition is a new milestone for Mtirala National Park, which will help us develop and accept travelers with more motivation and diligence," the reserve's management said in a Facebook post.

Five Georgian national parks competed for the international award: Mtirala, Borjomi-Kharagauli, Kazbegi, Kolkheti and Lagodekhi.

Mtirala is located 30 km away from Batumi. The Park got its name (in Georgian – "crying") because of frequent rains. On its territory grow unique endemic trees that have no analogues in the world. Not only the flora, but also the fauna of the Park is rich.

The World Travel Awards have been held since 1993. The purpose of the award is to identify the best from all sectors of the tourism industry. The award annually presents hundreds of nominations and thousands of nominees from different continents. In the tourism sector, the award is often referred to as the" Oscar of the tourism industry".
