We Yazidis often hear that the second wonder of the world, namely the hanging gardens of Semiramis, in the creation of this miracle, traces of the Yazidi people are visible. Let's start with the story, how it appeared.

The existence of one of the wonders of the world – the hanging gardens of Semiramis, many scientists question and claim that this is nothing more than a figment of the imagination of an ancient chronicler, whose idea was picked up by his colleagues and began to carefully rewrite from chronicle to chronicle. However, archaeological excavations have shown that the hanging gardens of Semiramis still existed. Naturally, they did not hang on ropes, but were a four-story building built in the shape of a pyramid with a huge amount of vegetation and were part of the Palace building. This unique structure got its name because of an incorrect translation of the Greek word "kremastos", which means "hanging".

As you know, in the seventh century BC, Nebuchadnezzar II, the ruler of Babylon, ordered to build something beautiful for his wife Amitis. Nebuchadnezzar knew that his wife Amitis, who had grown up in the mountains, did not like the dusty and noisy Babylon, located on a sandy plain. The Babylonian ruler was faced with a choice – to move the capital closer to the homeland of his wife or to make her stay in Babylon more comfortable. They decided to build hanging gardens that would remind the Queen of her homeland.

The most interesting thing for us Yazidis in this story is where this garden was located. There is a hypothesis that the hanging gardens of Semiramis were in Nineveh, the capital of Assyria in the North of modern Iraq. Yazidis are known to live and have lived in this part of Iraq. Also, of interest is the fact where the birthplace of Amitis was located and why the wonder of the world was not named after her. Her name was changed to Semiramis. Many scholars refer to the fact that the origin and nationality of Amitis was hidden from the people since she was from the warring state of Assyria (Medea). The Medes also lived Yazidis, and according to one version of one of the main languages Medea were kurmanji.

As I noted at the beginning, with the help of cause and effect, you can draw Parallels and see the trace of the Yazidi people in the appearance of the second wonder of the world.
