Why has the demand for fuel increased?
The increase in fuel imports is mainly due to an increase in diesel fuel supplies to Georgia, the Chairman of the Union of importers of petroleum products of Georgia said.
According to him, the import of diesel fuel to Georgia, despite the coronavirus pandemic, increased by 15.4% in 2020 compared to the previous year.
"The increase in diesel fuel imports is associated with the state program to encourage owners of agricultural land, with a large amount of infrastructure work and an increase in the number of transport and cargo vehicles passing through Georgia. From January to August 2020, this figure increased by 13.3%," Mtvralashvili said.
As for the reduction of gasoline imports by 3.2% this year, according to Mtvralashvili, this is actually due to restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including a reduction in transport links based on remote work and training, as well as a significant reduction in the number of tourists and visitors.
