The Central election Commission of Georgia plans to open polling stations for voting in parliamentary elections in about 40 countries. This was announced at a briefing by the press speaker of the CEC Anna Mikeladze.

According to her, the CEC works closely with the Georgian foreign Ministry to ensure that the constitutional rights of citizens abroad are respected even in the face of a pandemic.

"According to the information provided by the Ministry at the moment, it is planned to open polling stations in about 40 countries where we have already had practice," Mikeladze said.

At the same time, she noted that the functioning of sites abroad will directly depend on the epidemiological situation in a particular country.

"After the precinct election commissions are established abroad, information about the polling stations will be immediately posted on the official website of the CEC," Mikeladze said.

She also reminded that citizens of Georgia who are registered at the Consulate or registered at a specific address abroad will be able to vote abroad.

It is possible to register for consular registration before October 10. This procedure is free of charge. It can be completed both at the diplomatic mission of Georgia and online on the website geoconsul.gov.ge.

During the last General election, the 2018 Georgian presidential election, the CEC opened 55 polling stations in 39 countries. During the first round, more than 4.8 thousand citizens of Georgia who are abroad took part in the voting, and during the second round – more than 9 thousand voters.
