The Lalish temple, the holiest site for Yazidis worldwide, was reopened on Saturday after five months since it was closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

In mid-March this year, after the first cases of COVID-19 were reported, the Kurdistan regional government (PKK) ordered the closure of all religious sites, including mosques, churches and temples of other religions.

Lukman Suleiman, head of the Lalish media Department, confirmed to BasNews that the temple is now open to pilgrims after authorities notified them of the reopening of the site.

Suleiman said they expect more than 100 visitors every day, so the temple administration advises visitors to follow medical protocols issued by the Kurdistan regional government (PKK), including wearing face masks and exercising social distance during worship.
