On Friday, the Office of the Kurdistan Regional government (KRG), which is engaged in rescuing members of the Yazidi community captured by The Islamic state terrorist group (is, banned in Russia), announced that it is distributing humanitarian aid to Yazidis released from captivity by the jihadists.

"The work of the office is not limited to trying to free the kidnapped Yazidis, but is to help them," said Hussein Kaidi, head of the organization's office in Duhok province. He added that the KRG, in coordination with the office of the Iraqi Ministry of immigration and displacement in Duhok, launched a campaign to distribute aid last Thursday.

Kaidi noted that the mission has helped nearly 3,500 people by providing them with packages, including food, household items and clothing.

The process will continue "until all survivors... receive assistance."

Since 2014, the Kurdistan region's Yazidi search and rescue Authority has released more than 3,532 people from 6,417 kidnapped by is. Of the total number of Yazidis, 2,885 are still missing, of which 1,306 are women and 1,579 are men.

Yazidis have been subjected to atrocities and mass executions by the extremist group for years after the terrorist organization seized Shangal in mid-2014, forcing hundreds of thousands of members of the Yazidi minority to flee their homes. Others were less fortunate and were stuck in a war zone.
